Staying on top of important updates can be challenging—especially when key notifications are buried in your inbox. Integrating your NLC emails with Slack streamlines your workflow and ensures your team can act on updates faster, collaborate in real time, and reduce the risk of missing time-sensitive information without switching between platforms.
This guide walks you through integrating your NLC email notifications with Slack so you can receive updates in a designated channel or direct message.
What You’ll Need
An email provider that supports forwarding rules – In this example we will use Gmail.
An active Slack workspace.
Step 1: Set Up the Slack Channel
Open Slack and create a channel where you want to receive email notifications.
Click the channel name at the top, then select Integrations.
Click Send emails to this channel. Slack will generate a unique email address.
Copy this email address for later use.
Optional: Customize the notification format to include relevant details, such as request comments or updates.
Step 2: Set Up Email Forwarding in Gmail
Go to Gmail Settings > See all settings > Forwarding and POP/IMAP.
Click Add a forwarding address and paste the email address Slack generated in the previous step.
Click Next, then Proceed.
Slack will send a confirmation email to the channel. Open the email and click the confirmation link.
Once confirmed, return to Gmail settings.
Step 3: Create a Filter in Gmail
Open Gmail and click the search options icon in the search bar.
In the From field, enter:
[email protected]
.In the Subject field, enter the notification you want to receive.
Notes: This is case-sensitive, make sure to type the subject line with correct capitalizations. You will also need to create 1 filter for each Subject.
"Mentioned By Team" - Highly suggested. To receive notifications from requests where you are Tagged
"Team Comment" - To receive notifications from requests where simple comments are sent
"request updated" - Optional. To receive notifications about changes in Due Dates and Status tags
Click Create filter.
You can further customize the filters, but the most important one is to select the filter Forward it to, and select the Slack email address that was generated since Step 1.
Click Create filter.
And that’s it! Now, when your email provider receives matching messages, they will be forwarded to the specified Slack channel. Notifications should appear shortly after.
